Anna Melissa Raquid is a 16 year old junior student at Mary Star of the Sea High School in San Pedro, California. This young lady has been following Sasha Vujacic since 2004. Not only is she a devout Lakers fan, but my little sister! So I took the time to ask her about her love for Sasha so that you would get to know her as well.
You’ve been following Sasha ever since his days at the Long Beach Pyramid. How was your first meeting?
Well, the very first time I met Sasha was when I was nine. Kind of interesting considering that I met him about 7 years ago. However, I digress. My first meeting was silent. Haha. I was so nervous that I couldn’t say anything. We asked for a picture and I said thank you. But at that very moment, I thought to myself, ‘oh man do I love Sasha.’
You’ve met him several times. Can you tell us your favorite meeting with him?
My favorite meeting with Sasha was on his birthday in 2008. I went to visit Sasha and decided to wear a gift bow. I thought that I would be the greatest gift a person could ever receive. So here he comes, he steps out of his car, talks for about 10 minutes, and takes come pictures. As he was about to leave, I asked him to stick me in the back of his car. To my complete, utter shock, he laughed and said, ‘no.’ Hey, it was worth a shot. Haha.
What do you love about Sasha?
There are actually many things I love about Sasha. But the thing I love most about him is the complete, utter passion he has for everything he does. Whether it be with basketball, or just his constant pursuit of bigger and better things.
How does Sasha influence/inspire you?
Sasha has influenced me in a number ways. Seeing how he is constantly fixated on his goals and does everything possible to reach them, I am inspired to do so as well. Sasha has showed me that extra minutes working in the gym can make all the difference. So it wouldn’t be difficult for me to spend extra time in the gym. Just kidding. What I was trying to say was that it would not be difficult for me to spend extra time cultivating my talents as well. Even though Sasha is an athlete, he has inspired a variety of people; including a musician like myself.
Anything else about your fandom that you’d like to share?
Sasha is my hero, my inspiration, and source of drive. He has showed me that through hard work and perseverance, I can achieve anything I set my mind to. If and when I achieve my ultimate goal, Sasha, know you were a driving force in the pursuit of my goal.

Sasha: I was very sorry to hear you were traded to the NJ nets but please remember you will always have a big fan base in LA and will still be watching you. We look forward to your return to LA and hope this will lead to maybe even a starting position in NJ. I’ve been a fan for many years. Watching the Lakers won’t be the same without you on the team. I will continue to wear my #18 Laker T-shirt and would like to wish you only the best. Who knows maybe one day you will return to the Lakers! Say hello to Jordan for me. We love you, don’t forget us!

SO SAD……I’m Taiwanese, my English is not good, but there are somethings I want to tell you.
Today I saw the news about you will going to Nets, I feel sad. Because I think you are good player, when you play on court, you always play with enthusiasm and do your best. To me,you and Kobe are both my favorite players on earth. Lakers is only team I like, but now I will like Nets too. I’m your big fans forever!!!!

Sasha thanks for you loyalty and dedication over the years with the Lakers. Stay focused and work hard and you will find a team that will let you start. Be aggressive and be the player you can be. Good luck. Oh and ignore big ears Farmar. He still is on the bench.
