This week, we once again shine the light on Taiwan as we profile 15-year-old Max Huang. Max joins Jason Chen as one of Sasha and the Lakers’ biggest fans in Taipei. Read on to learn about his favorite game and his lucky Lakers T-shirt.
How long have you been a fan?
Since around 2000, so that’s about nine years. Being a fan mainly started out with being a huge fan of Kobe, and now I’m a fan of Sasha along with the Lakers.
What was it about Sasha that first caught your attention?
I loved his shooting style with his quick release and then later I loved his nickname “The Machine” along with his hair.
What are some of your favorite things about Sasha?
His hair, the way he speaks.
Do you have a favorite Sasha moment or game?
My favorite moment was probably his energy in the Lakers-Celtics Christmas rematch game. I loved how he was so happy when they won because I was, too. I loved his chest pounding after that Ariza hustle play leading to the and-one.
What is it like being a fan in Taiwan?
At my school there are TONS of Laker fans. I usually like to talk to my friends about Sasha and how I love his game. I often watch the games on television or online. With many Laker fans, they always show the Laker games on TV.
Do you have any game watching rituals?
Sasha’s shooting recently has been a bit off but I always cheer for him and raise my hands up when he shoots a three. Every Laker game I will wear a Laker shirt to show my loyalty (I have six T-shirts). I have a Laker shirt that says “BEAT LA” and over it is written, “You Can’t.” So far, every time I have worn that shirt, the Lakers have won.
If you could say one thing to Sasha, what would it be?
Have you really not worn green since losing in the Finals?
